Lenovo will flood the smartphone industry with Moto Mods each year and these are the two highly-anticipated modulars in 2017.

Lego-like Toy Mod for Moto Droid Z

Lenovo's Dan Dery said that a mod is no longer functioned as a back cover but it can be utilized to boost the smartphone features. According to Tomsguide, the company revealed a robot kit that is compatible with Lego Mindstorms.

The mod appears to replace the Programmable Brick in Mindstorms and would aim at specific target markets who has played the original platform. Another mod is the tablet dock, which is still a concept design but Lenovo could be developing it anytime soon as the idea has been presented at the big event.

Alexa Mod for Moto Droid Z

The new Moto Mod will be able to turn Moto Z into Amazon Echo. Amazon's Jon Kirk delivered the company's keynote speech that included its partnership with Lenovo.

The demoed video shows a modular being placed at the back panel of a Moto Z device and transforms it into a portable Amazon Echo. There's also the iconic ombre in blue color to notify user that Alexa is active.

Lenovo did not reveal the price of its new Moto Mod but the company promises 12 mods each year starting 2017. The Alexa Mod will be available later this year. Other mods announced at the event include a wireless charger, turbo charger, and a power pack.

The Alexa mod project on Moto Z is similar to Project Ara, according to PC World. It's divided into parts that enhance the handset's functionality.

Motorola did a research on customer's behavior after purchasing speaker mods for their smartphones and found that users listen to music averagely 14 hours a week.
