NVIDIA Announcing The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Today; Titan X-Like GPU Expected To Be Fastest In The Market
ByNVIDIA in all likelihood will announce the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti today, Feb. 28, during the "Ultimate GeForce" event. The GPU giant teases with "It's almost Time" with the Ti highlighted in the word Time, a telltale clue of the 1080 Ti GPU's looming announcement. The cut-down version of the Pascal-based Titan X is built around the GP102. If NVIDIA keeps the GP 102's base and boost clock speeds on the 1080 Ti and the memory humming at the same speed, then enthusiasts can expect the fastest and most powerful graphics card to date.
NVIDIA has not disclosed any official announcements of what it will be bringing to the "Ultimate GeForce" event on Feb. 28 other than a hint in its official website. However, dataminers have searched the source code of the official page using "view source" in Firefox after NVIDIA made the announcement last week. The original label says the "GTX 1080 Ti countdown," which has been subsequently changed but not before Kitguru was able to capture a screenshot. This brings confirmation to all previous reports that the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti will be unveiled at GDC.
Moreover, the fact that NVIDIA will livestream the event indicates a big reveal that could steal the limelight from AMD's "Capsaicin and Cream," which is happening on the same day. The red team is expected to announce its AMD Vega GPU as the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti closest rival. Though several leaks have been in favor of Vega, the 1080 Ti cannot be easily discounted for NVIDIA may soon drop a few surprises in the GDC event.
The NVIDIA GeForce GTC 1080 Ti is expected to be the fastest and most powerful graphics card in the market. It is a built around the GP102-based card like the previously announced Quadro P6000 designed for the professional workstation, Forbes reported. The 1080 Ti will most likely have lesser memory at 12GB and capable of running at 60 fps in 4K games. If it keeps the GP102's base and boost clock speeds armed with a memory capable of achieving the same speed, it could easily be the fastest graphics card to beat AMD's Vega.
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti will most likely launch two to three week after its announcement, which puts it around mid-March. As to pricing, it will be between GTX 1080's $630 and Titan X's $1,200. It will most likely be priced above $800 as generation after generation GPUs have been pushing their prices as of late according to PCGamesN. More details will be announced at the GDC event so make sure to stay tuned on more updates later today.
