It was a good night for Blizzard who made a good sweep of taking home four trophies for 'Overwatch' at the recently concluded DICE Awards 2017, held in Las Vegas.

"Overwatch," the winningest game of the evening took home Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction and Design, Outstanding Achievement in Online Gameplay, Action Game of the Year, and the big one, Game of the Year. The announcement was made during the 2017 DICE Summit at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

Blizzard's "Overwatch" is the company's firs IP offering in 20 years having a huge fan following scattered on all major platforms. It is known that argued and said that an online multiplayer only game could win the biggest prize at DICE 2017 over a narrative rich "Unchartered 4." However, it did, and now it adds to its laurel the same category award it won at The Game Awards.

In terms of nominations, Naughty Dog's "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" was the forefront for having 10 nominations including Game of the Year. It was also nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction and Design, among others.

However, why did "Overwatch" win? According to Mammoth, the answer lies in cultural impact. Apparently, "Overwatch" made a huge impact on the gaming culture industry for securing for itself a 10 million player base in just under a month of its release. Naughty Dog's "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End," highly praised by critics for being the best in its "Uncharted" series never saw "Overwatch" to be a juggernaut in a short span of time, and growing its player base to 25 million by January of this year.

Additionally, Blizzard is not done yet. Despite "Overwatch" winning Game of the Year twice from two separate award-giving bodies, it continues to tease fans of new characters coming into the game as reported here earlier. A 24th hero is being teased to join by providing another hint of whom or what it might be through a Tweet.

However, latest reports indicate there is something changed in the game. Accordingly, the Doomfist gauntlet has mysteriously vanished from the Numbani payload. Soon enough, the new hero will be unveiled and there is no better option than to wait and just enjoy playing the game for now.

Meanwhile, this year's awards show introduced two new categories that recognize Virtual Reality: Immersive Reality Game of the Year, was won by "Superhot VR," developed by SUPERHOT and published by SUPERHOT Team. The other new VR category, and winner, is Immersive Reality Technical Achievement, won by Eagle Flight, developed and published by Ubisoft. Both categories focus on Virtual Reality experiences, IGN reported.
