Under the hood of the Jaguar XE is a brand-new, all-aluminum 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It uses a twin-scroll turbocharger to produce 247 horsepower. In addition, it boasts an impressive 269 pound-feet of torque.

The 2018 model features an automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. However, the 4WD is available at an additional cost. Meanwhile, an upgraded version named Jaguar XE S receives a 3.0-liter V6 engine tuned to generate 380 horsepower.

Cashless gas payment

Jaguar has teamed up with Shell to develop an innovative, cashless in-car gas payment system. Instead of swiping a card at the pump or waiting for a service crew, owners just need to install the Shell app. Drivers can now drive up to any gas station and use the vehicle's touchscreen to select how much fuel they need.

Afterward, they can pay through PayPal or Apple Pay. An Android Pay-based system arrives later this year. At the moment, the in-car gas payment debuted in the UK but is expected to be released globally before 2018.

For the record, an electronic receipt will be displayed on the touchscreen. Also, a copy will be sent to the driver's email address. Indeed, the Shell app provides a new way to make refueling more convenient.

The base price for the Jaguar XE starts at $35,725. Eventually, a mandatory $925 destination charge will be factored in. On the other hand, the Jaguar XE S series retails at $52,275.

According to Digital Trends, the all-new Jaguar XE S might help the British company get a larger chunk of the compact luxury sedan segment. It is currently dominated by the BMW M3 series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Well, it appears that their reign will not last any longer.
