Central Florida Vs. Baylor Preview And Live Stream: Expect A Closer Game Than The Spread Would Assume
ByBoth Baylor (11-1) and Central Florida (11-1) play in major conferences and have identical records. Both have exactly one impressive win on the year, Baylor 41-12 against #11 Oklahoma, Central Florida 38-35 versus #18 Louisville, and one loss to a ranked opponent, the Bears a 49-17 blowout to #13 Oklahoma State, the Knights 28-25 to #9 South Carolina. Each squad has an NFL prospect at quarterback, Bryce Petty for Baylor; Blake Bortles for UCF. The spread is 17.5 points, according to Vegas Insider.
True, Baylor has demolished more teams than Central Florida and plays in a stronger conference, but they haven't been flattening teams as much recently and did get blown out this year, unlike Central Florida, who nearly beat South Carolina. The matchup shows evidence of a closer final outcome than odds makers predict.
For the sake of the American Athletic Conference, formerly the Big East, UCF better at least cover. The league's other top team, Louisville, won its bowl game; a solid performance or even a win by the Knights would do a lot to build the reputation of a weakly graded league.
Based on head coach George O'Leary's comments to ESPN, they're not concerned about perceived slights and simply excited to be in a BCS Bowl.
"It's something everyone at UCF is excited about, the administration, the fan base," O'Leary said. "Anytime you have a first in anything, people get very excited, but especially when you're invited to a bowl like the Fiesta."
Hopefully for the fans, both quarterbacks put on a performance. Petty won Big-12 Player of the Year behind 3,800 yards, 30 TDs, and just two interceptions. Boyles hasn't been quite as good, but still posted a 68 percent completion rate, 3,200 yards, 22 TDs, and 7 interceptions. He's also the 38th ranked NFL prospect of 2014, according to CBS Sports.
