'Warcraft' Director Duncan Jones Still Waiting For Legendary's Go Signal On 'Warcraft 2'
ByLast year's "Warcraft" might not have been exactly a box-office hit, but the hype for a second installment continues. However, Director Duncan Jones is still waiting for Legendary's go signal on "Warcraft 2."
For those who aren't familiar with this film adaptation, it was based on "The World of Warcraft" - one of the most played video games out there. Directed by Duncan Jones, "Warcraft" is considered a prequel to the game itself; and surprisingly, it shows how the orcs and the humans came together to fight for their land and people against a force only known as Fel magic. Twitter user Anthony Maxwell even asked the director if he is getting a sequel just a few days ago. However, Duncan replied that he's still waiting for Legendary's go signal on "Warcraft 2."
Further detailed on ComicBook, the reason for the sequel delay might have something to do with its first installment's box-office standing. "Warcraft" was released back in June 2016 by Universal Pictures with a budget of $160 million and was expected to earn at least $450 million to break even. However, it was only able to earn $433.7 million in overall sales - a few million dollars short of the expected return. But while the movie was somehow considered a box-office flop, even rated by movie and TV series aggregator Rotten Tomatoes at only 28%, fans are still clamoring for a second installment.
According to CINEMABLEND on the other hand, it all comes to down to publicity strategy. Legendary could learn a thing or two from how they released the film adaptations of "Resident Evil" to the public, which was more promoted overseas than the local market - considering the fact that most fans and players of the renowned video game series come from other countries.
Legendary is yet to confirm if there will really be a "Warcraft" sequel. Stay tuned in here for more updates!
