Tacoma Community College (TCC) and Saint Martin's University in Lacey will be collaborating together in June to offer baccalaureate degree programs.
"The partnership will offer TCC students bachelor of arts degree programs from Saint Martin's in both elementary education and special education, with additional course articulation in early childhood education," Joyce Westgard , Saint Martin's associate vice president and dean of the College of Education and Counseling Psychology, said in a statement.
Students enrolling in programs offered under the partnership will have to spend their first two years as TCC students and their final two years as Saint Martin's students.
"We are looking forward to implementing this new program with Saint Martin's, both to directly benefit the students enrolled and to strengthen the transfer pathway between our institutions," Mike Flodin, Dean for Mathematics, Science and Engineering who also manages TCC's Education - Transfer program said in a statement.
Roy F. Heynderickx, Ph.D., President of Saint Martin's University said that Tacoma students need not move out of their campus to take advantage of Saint Martin's education facilities.
"We are thrilled to host Saint Martin's University on our Tacoma campus. University partnerships are critical for our students and for our community," Pamela Transue, Ph.D., President of Tacoma Community College, said, The Sub Urban Times reports.
Saint Martin's University, established in 1895 by the Catholic Order of Saint Benedict, is one of 14 Benedictine colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. It offers 23 majors and seven graduate programs in a wide range of subjects including the liberal arts, business, education, nursing and engineering.
