After Ben Affleck quit as its director, "The Batman" movie finally found its new director. "Cloverfield" and "War for the Planet of the Apes" director Matt Reeves officially committed to helming the DC movie superhero movie.
Reeves have been on top of the list of directors chosen to direct the movie. But it is only until recently that this has been made official. Besides playing as Batman, Affleck will still have a significant role behind the scenes since he wrote the screenplay along with Geoff Johns, Variety reported.
Matt Reeves' Other Films and Why He's Perfect for "The Batman" Movie
This is not the first time that Reeves replaced a director to take the helm of a movie. He replaced Rupert Wyatt as the director of "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" Reeves made the sequel as successful as Wyatt's reboot of the franchise, which was "Rise fo the Planet of the Apes" in 2011.
Now, Reeves is finishing up on the third instalment to the franchise, which is "War of the Planet of the Apes." He is already in the post production of the movie, which will have its theatrical release in July. With how things are going, it wouldn't be a problem for his to direct "The Batman," which still doesn't have an official schedule to begin production.
The movie's production was slated to start in May, but was cancelled due to Affleck's busy schedule. However, now that producers have found a new director, production could be expected to start before 2017 ends. Reeves may have directed critically and financially successful movies; it will be his first time directing a superhero movie.

Ben Affleck has been very busy with "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," "The Accountant," and "Live by Night." A lot of fans speculated that his busy schedule and his drained out energy is one of the main reason why he quit as the director of "The Batman." However, he made it clear in a statement that the major reason is he cannot live up to the demands of directing the much anticipated DC superhero movie, Hollywood Reporter reported.
He said that directing the film requires passion and the very best that he can give. And he said that he couldn't deliver both. Especially that he would play Bruce Wayne/Batman and direct at the same time. He said that he is looking for a director who would help him make this big film.
