In the new trailer of "The Circle," Tom Hanks plays a villainous Steve Jobs-like character as CEO of a powerful tech company with a vision to make the world a perfect place. This would entail advancing technology while intruding privacy of persons as their every move is monitored with the premise that people behave better when they are being watched.

The tech thriller is adapted from the novel of Dave Eggers of the same name that came out in 2013. "The Spectacular Now" James Ponsoldt directs the movie that also stars Emma Watson, John Boyega, Karen Gillan, Patton Oswalt, Ellar Coltrane, and Bill Paxton.

The movie is about a young woman Mae Holland (Watson) who was accepted to work in The Circle, a tech behemoth in Silicon Valley. She will then agree to take part in an experiment where her very move is closely monitored.

This puts Mae in the limelight and in the company of the CEO Eamon Bailey (Hanks) whose vision of a perfect world entails intruding on people's privacy. Bailey asks Emma if she finds herself behaving better when being watched, which reveals his views of how technology should be used.

"The Circle" trailer reveals that Mae will soon find herself in an ethical dilemma, The Independent reported. With the help of a sympathetic co-worker Kalden (Boyega), she may have the means to stop Bailey and alter the future of humanity.

The latest tech thriller actually mirrors real-life situations. Hanks' Bailey is reminiscent of Steve Jobs and his visions on how technology can improve modern life. In fact, The Circle looks like the headquarters of Google or Facebook with many young tech workers aspiring to get in.

What the "The Circle" is doing is to remind people of the dark side of technology, which could happen if people are not vigilant and well-informed. Like Mae, every person faces a compromise between the advantages of technology and the potential loss of one's privacy.

Technology has its perils for Tim Cook can easily use the iPhone for various nefarious activities according to CultofMac. In fact, Facebook is already studying users' behaviors to individually optimize the service. Smart TVs can track viewers' habits as the Vizio issue has recently revealed.

To know how dark technology can turn, watch "The Circle," which hits theaters on April 28. In the meantime, check out the trailer below.
