Top Five Man Crushes Of 2013 Part Two: A Surprise At Number One
By2. Elon Musk: SpaceX's CEO has accomplished a tremendous amount this year carving out a commercial market for space, and ultimately bringing everyday citizens closer to the galaxy. His company continually proves itself during its highly successful contract with NASA. As its reputation and resources grow, SpaceX may one day surpass NASA and become the global leader in space exploration. Why not? Since when has the private sector not outperformed the government? Musk, whose net worth is around $6.7 billion according to Forbes, is worshipped in most places, but maybe none more so than at his alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania. "Every kid wants to work for Musk," my brother, who's currently enrolled at UPenn's graduate school, told me when I asked how the 42 year-old billionaire was perceived on campus.
1. Patrick Jane: Jane is the character Simon Baker plays on CBS's "The Mentalist." His big moment came just over a month ago, when he stood over "Red John," or the serial killer who murdered his wife and daughter, and choked him until death. One of the most charismatic and complex personalities on TV, Jane, and the way he has been developed, was a job smartly done by CBS's team. Six seasons in, fans have never seen Jane's house and only recently caught him in a non-work related social encounter during his two year trip to Mexico (where he was so lonely he was duped by the FBI). Finally, there's the tantalizing love story between he and Lisbon that's so subtly done, it should stand as an example for future television show trysts.
1/2: Ron Burgundy: Say what you want about "Anchorman 2", but it retained most of the genius of the first one (and couldn't resist at points from referencing that genius), largely on the back of Ferrel's performance. Champ was annoying, Brick was way over-played (based on clips I've seen, Steve Carrell is so impressive during rehearsals and such a likeable guy that the directors probably couldn't resist expanding his scenes), and even Brian Fantana seemed a little less of the man he used to be, but Ferrel, well, he was as good as ever, highlighted during this quote when he described an encounter with a transvestite: "I was expecting angel hair pasta, but instead I got the Battle of the Bulge!"
