According to Teen Vogue, Gomez' decision to be part of Netflix' "13 Reasons Why" was a personal one. The 24-year-old "Spring Breakers" star opens up about her personal experiences she somewhat sees in her newest project.
"13 Reasons Why" is Gomez first ever big television project after her recent rehab stint. Last year, she decided stopped her tours and other works to focus on her health problem. Her first appearance was in American Music Awards where she delivers a heartwarming message for her acceptance speech.
The singer, who recently faces the press panel for Netflix' new series, reveals that she met people who have similar experiences as the characters in "13 Reasons Why". She even recalled her high school days and connects it to the series: "I had no idea what I was gonna be or who I was going to become."
Gomez also noted that the story feels like home. This alone is her reason why she wanted to be part of "13 Reasons Why". Though she will not be appearing in the show, the 24-year-old star will be executive producing it.
For Gomez, "13 Reasons Why" has a great story to tell. Though the series will surely be emotional and "hard to watch", she reasoned out that viewers "have to see something that's going to shake them and is frightening."
Moreover, Gomez is also confident that the audience will certainly fall in love with the story and to the characters in the series. She reveals that the first few episodes of "13 Reasons Why" are really captivating. However, she also noted that as the story progresses, it will start getting darker.

For starters, people who have yet to read the book might think that "13 Reasons Why" is just a typical teenager story about love and other stuff. However, the plot behind this title is much more meaningful, darker than you expected and also, it makes you realize the importance of life and your worth as a human being.
According to Deadline, "13 Reasons Why" is a story based on Jay Asher's YA of the same name. The story will revolve around Hannah Baker who committed suicide and tape recorded the reasons why she decided to kill herself. These said reasons includes abuse, bullying, and block-headed adults.
"13 Reasons Why" stars Katherine Langford as Hannah. The release date is yet to be announced by Netflix.
