A new update was released by Microsoft for "Gears of War 4," its third-person shooter, now available for the Xbox One and PC.

The update adds two maps, Impact Dark and War Machine, are available to season pass holders. Alongside the free update, it also brought Guardian improvements and more, according to IGN. Microsoft also announced a Valentine's Day event for "Gears of War 4." The event will commence on February 10.

The Valentine's event will earn players Gear Packs, themed bounties, another Craftable Character, and the return of the Torque Bow Tag (with a Cupid-style twist).

"Gears of War 4" Impact Dark Map

According to The Coalition, is a remixed iteration of Impact. It completely re-imagines the combat dynamics of the original map. Accordingly, it will have a nighttime setting, with visibility hampered by smoke. The feature will force players to come closer to the action.

In an effort to alter the flow of the new map, changes were implemented, such as Boltoks now replace Snipers, Torque/EMBAR is replaced by Dropshot, and Incendiaries is swapped with Overkill. The result of the changes plays completely different to its original map.

Support players now need to take bigger risks. Reduced visibility of the map will make reading the battlefield more difficult for even the most competitive teams.

"Gears of War 4" War Machine Map

The War Machine Map also receives a re-imagining, although the core gameplay, reportedly remains the same. Changes now reflect on settings to a new COG Settlement, shying away from the old abandoned train station locale of the original.

The difference in this map is that signs of life are everywhere. Despite the new setting, everything about the map game dynamics is still there. The frantic fight for the Sniper, down to the domination of the turret to target enemies that stray into the open.

"Gears of War 4" Guardian improvements

Fans of the mode will have a surprise. The Coalition said that, based on fans feedback, the spawning system has been altered to something completely new called Leader Spawns. Accordingly, players will respawn in a location close to their team leaders, which adds a tactical edge to the game.

Leaders who position themselves in beneficial areas of the map will now have a backup from the other players immediately after respawning next to him. Accordingly, the update is suited to the low visibility combat of Impact Dark.
