Xbox 360 Games On Windows 10 PC Complicated But Possible; Microsoft Fulfilling Xbox Play Anywhere Ambition [VIDEO]
ByXbox 360 games may be playable on Windows 10 PC through the use of an emulator, but it would entail a lot of work configuring different PC hardware. This could be the final piece to fulfill Microsoft's ambition for the Xbox Play Anywhere, which is a system that brings the Xbox and PC close together.
The Backwards Compatibility (BC) is a killer feature that drove the high sales of the Xbox One. Players can now have access to more than 300 BC games with A-list titles like "BioShock Trilogy" and the "Mass Effect Trilogy."
January was considered a monster month with a total of 18 new titles added. Compatible Xbox 360 games are also included in the huge library of games. Incidentally, both Xbox One games and compatible Xbox 360 games will be playable in Project Scorpio.
Earlier this week, a fan took to Twitter to ask Xbox head Phil Spencer about the possibility of bringing Xbox 360 games on Windows 10 PCs. Spencer expressed the difficulty involved but remains optimistic saying "Never say never" according to CNet.
Spencer revealed that the process would be more complicated than it was with the Xbox One, which two years ago was able to play compatible Xbox 360 games. It is easier with the Xbox One with its standardized system and engineers already know the kind of horsepower it carries.
However, PCs are another story for different hardware varies extensively from one model to another. This makes configuring the PC for Xbox 360 games a lot more difficult especially since some of the titles played in the console are as old as the console itself.
The Xbox 360 is already nearing its twelfth year, literally an ancient console in the tech world. This is why games added to BC are tested extensively to see if these are as good as it once were in a new hardware. Microsoft may not be able to consistently meet this standard when it comes to the varying configurations of PCs, according to Digital Trends.
However, Spencer's optimistic reply is indicative of Micorsoft's ambition to unify the Xbox ecosystem through the Xbox Play Anywhere. It is an ambitious move to bring the Xbox and the PC closer together. BC has already achieved much, but to open the feature as non-exclusive to Xbox One may be good news to Xbox players as a whole, though it could potentially impact the Xbox One sales.
