Gionee has officially launched its new offering in China, the Gionee F5. Here's all you need to know about the mid-range smartphone.

Gionee F5: at first glance

Per Android Headlines, the Gionee F5 is a metal-clad smartphone, with a front-facing fingerprint scanner, which also doubles as a home key. It has two capacitive buttons flanking the home button. The loudspeaker is located on the back of the Gionee F5, with the company's logo below the phone's rear-facing camera.

According to GSM Arena, the Gionee F5 is available in gold and rose gold variants in China. The phone boasts of a 5.3" IPS display of 720p resolution and runs on the dated MT6750 chipset, with an octa-core Cortex-A53 processor, Mali-T860MP2 GPU, and 4GB of RAM.

The Gionee F5 comes with a pretty decent imaging department. It has a 13MP main camera with a LED flash and an 8MP front-facing camera. Finally, the F5 is powered by a 4,000 mAh battery and comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow pre-installed and the latest Amigo launcher.

Gionee F5: price and availability

This smartphone retails at 1,799 Yuan ($262) in China. Many would say this is a good price for a handset with the specs mentioned, although competition is somewhat stiff, and some smartphones in the same category are more affordable compared to the Gionee F5. In any case, this budget offering by Gionee will certainly find its customers, especially because of its rather large battery on the inside, and its specifications are nothing to laugh at.

The Gionee F5 is already available for purchase in China, and it looks like this handset will launch in India soon. Stay tuned as there are no confirmations yet if the model will be available in other international markets as well.
