RX 490 Launch Imminent; Indications Suggest GPU Exists to Compete Head-to-Head with GTX 1080
ByThere's been a little detail on RX 490 as reports are more excited to find out about Ryzen. However, these gathered information could indicate that RX 490 does exist and it will have an imminent launch.
RX 490 could come with Vega architecture
Previously at CES, AMD showcased Vega 10 GPU performance. The setup was made for playing "Doom" at 4K. WccFtech has assumed that Vega card can make the choice easier for gamers as it runs smoothly, and likely better than GTX 1080.
AMD promises that Vega 10 will be like nothing before. Furthermore, AMD also reminded the tech community that Polaris architecture has been the biggest 14nm process GPU to date and it will be interesting to find out if Vega will come as a new memory hierarchy optimized to obtain higher frequencies.
Bethesda mentioned RX 490 in "Fallout 4" requirements
Bethesda listed a few requirements to play "Fallout 4" and surprisingly, one of them was RX 490 or GTX 1080 GPU. It has been removed since then but it can be argued that RX 490 does exist and it is direct rival for GTX 1080.
GTX 1080 price benchmark
Currently, Nvidia sells GTX 1080 for around $600 and this premium card isn't an affordable solution for budget gamers. AMD will reportedly setting a pricepoint slightly lower than GTX 1080 to meet consumers demand. The top-end graphics card with cheaper price should be a selling point for RX 490.
RX 400 or RX 500?
There has been a debate on the naming. Forbes has learned from a few sources that AMD could be skipping RX 400 series and moving to much more powerful RX 500 series instead.
Regardless of the series, AMD is set to launch Vega 10 GPU in Q2 this year.
