The upcoming sequel to Failbetter Games' 2015 survival RPG "Sunless Sea" called "Sunless Skies" amazingly hit its $126,600 (£100,000) crowdfunding campaign goal just four hours after the kickstarter program launched on Wednesday.

"'Sunless Skies' hit its goal this afternoon with 29 days to go... and that (amount) continues to climb," Forbes reported.

Game producer Lotte Bevan said that they were "taking what we did well in 'Sunless Sea'" to ensure that they were "making it better in 'Sunless Skies'".

"We're also trying to remove areas of frustration in the original game... (where players) often find (themselves) repeating early game content quite a lot," she added, acknowledging the gamers' frustration although the dying part makes the game fun as well.

This means that in "Sunless Skies", the game developers are working to strike that balance between high level of risk challenge and low level of repetition rate, Forbes noted.

Failbetter Games announced back in September 2016 its plans to create "Sunless Skies" and gave a heads up for the still-ongoing crowdfunding campaign.

It also provided the basic premise of the "Sunless Sea" sequel as: "The stars are dying. The stars are the Judgements: the inventors, arbiters and enforcers of the universe's laws - but a revolution has begun, and the stars are being murdered."

This means that the game is set to take place, most likely, in space. Its predecessor, "Sunless Sea" which saw players takes on the role of a completely customizable (including the character's back story) Unterzee steamship captain. Players can end the game after achieving their self-imposed ambition in the game.

"4,569 backers pledged $212,790 toward the original $126,635 goal - ultimately unlocking all three stretch goals," VG247 reported.

The result of the "Sunless Skies" crowdfunding campaign should not come as a surprise, given how "Sunless Sea" - which also was funded by a kickstarter campaign - performed when it was released for Windows and OS X.
