"Rainbow Six Siege" saw very promising figures in its first year of release. Ubisoft reported that out of 1.3 million who play the game daily, Brazil accounts for 176,000. Overall, almost 4 million people play weekly worldwide. Here's what's next for "Rainbow Six Siege" on its second year.
"Rainbow Six Siege" exceeded expectations
According to PlayStation LifeStyle, the game has over 13 million registered players now and is doing well outside the U.S. Ubisoft just released a video noting how "Rainbow Six Siege" exceeded expectations, while the game's presence keeps getting stronger everyday.
The official "Rainbow Six Siege" Twitter account posted an infographic which gave a recap of year one statistics. You can look at all the details below:
"Rainbow Six Siege": no new game modes?
So what does this mean for the title? Per PC Gamer, one question players are concerned about for year two of "Rainbow Six Siege" is when new game modes will be brought in. Last year, players have saved the same hostages, defused the identical bombs, and secured the same areas over and over again.
Compared to "Titanfall 2", which has nine modes and probably more on the way - "Rainbow Six Siege" seemed to lack a little in that area. Although in Montreal, Canada, creative director Xavier Marquis addressed the concern about new game modes. He said it's something they do not want to do.
As this may seem like bad news for some players who have been waiting for the new variations, Ubisoft is confident that new game modes will not be what would be keeping "Rainbow Six Siege" fun a year from now. Marquis added that however other settings are changed (map, operators, etc.) they need something steady and that is Siege mode.
Brand director Alexandre Remy explained further that although they are constantly looking and prototyping, there are some foundations they want to keep like, attack versus defense, destruction, operators, and [only having] one life. He called it the DNA of the game.
"Rainbow Six Siege": future plans
"Rainbow Six Siege" Year Two will reportedly follow the same format as last year's updates, with eight new operators and four new maps spread across four seasonal updates. Remy added that production is looking for another eight operators. In fact, they plan to release a minimum of 50, with aspirations of reaching twice that amount over the coming years. Remy said that the idea is that you actually want enough operators, so that each pick you have a choice.
"Rainbow Six Siege" PS4 matchmaking issues
Meanwhile, if you are experiencing concerns with matchmaking on the PS4, please note that Ubisoft is aware of the issue and is currently looking into it. An update was apparently deployed, which seemed to have fixed the issue, but the problem was reported to have returned.
"Rainbow Six Siege" Operation Velvet Shell releases on February 7.
