A student at West Virginia University (WVU) has been arrested for assault and battery in a hazing incident that also resulted in the fraternity's suspension from the school.

According to the West Virginia Gazette, Andrew Nemes, 21, of Huntington Beach, Calif., was arrested for his involvement in hazing injuries sustained by a 19-year-old pledging WVU's Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. Nemes was released on $2,000 bond.

Police have been investigating the hazing incident since receiving information in November that the student sustained injuries pledging for the fraternity. The victim told police he needed stitches in his chin and suffered a concussion after one instance of hazing, according to TheDPost.com.

WVU announced in a news release it will be placing their campus' chapter of Phi Kappa Psi under supervised probation. During the period, current and new members will have to complete additional alcohol abuse training, improve the chapter's academic standing and develop leadership training.

After seeking consultation from family and from an attorney, the 19-year-old victim submitted to a police interview Dec. 13. Law enforcement also interviewed other potential witnesses and arrested Nemes shortly after.
