As reported by Variety, English-born actor Dominic West has been cast to play Lara Croft's father, named Lord Richard Croft. West is a veteran on the big and small screen with such credits as featured roles in "The Wire," and currently stars in Showtime's hit series "The Affair," and lending his voice talents to Pixar's "Finding Dory." He is set to join Alicia Vikander, who plays the titular role of Lara Croft, and has her own respective credits in films like "Deus Ex Machina," and "The Man from U.N.C.L.E."The "Tomb Raider" franchise has seen its ups and downs over the years. Starting as a massively popular video game for the original Playstation, the series has gone on to see a mildly successful cinematic adaptation as well as a critically acclaimed reboot in the gaming world. Now the series is getting another reboot, this time on the big screen. The cast includes a variety of talented stars such as the up and coming Alicia Vikander, Walton Goggins, and Daniel Wu. However, a new well-renowned actor has recently joined the fray.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Lord Richard Croft is a prominent figure in the "Tomb Raider" lore. Croft is a world famous archaeologist and aristocrat, as well as being the father to one of the most beloved heroines the video game world has ever seen. Interestingly enough, this is not the first time West had to play Vikander's father as they played similarly familial characters in 2014's dramatic title "Testament of Youth."
The movie reboot is currently being handled by Warner Bros. and is being co-produced and overseen by MGM films. The studio attained the rights for a reboot from GK films, who had previously purchased the rights from Square Enix in order to get production up and running.
The "Tomb Raider" reboot film is slated to hit theaters on March 16 of next year.
