"Mulan" live movie adaptation global cast search now eyes Canadian actress, Eunice Kang, to play the heroine Hua Mulan. Disney officially announced that it will not be whitewashing the movie and will be casting Asian actors for major roles.

Disney has reiterated in the past weeks that it is still in the casting process for the "Mulan" live movie adaptation. Kang, an independent film actress is the most recent name in the long roster of actresses rumored to play the lead in the latest Disney offering.

Kang is skilled in Martial Arts particularly Muay Thai and Taekwondo, making her athletic abilities ideal for the role. The actress also speaks different languages, namely, Korean, Mandarin and Japanese.

Though relatively not that popular in Hollywood, Kang has been featured in the Fox TV series "Lucifer." Disney is set to go for fresh picks to play the lead role in the "Mulan" live movie adaptation, according to cpoplove.

Previously, the Australian actress Natasha Liu Bordizzo was reported to have been chosen to play Mulan. Bordizzo's name figured prominently in the Chinese social media that Disney, in its official Weibo account, had to make an official announcement, the Chinese Film Insider reported.

Disney confirmed that casting for the movie has not been finalized as the search is still ongoing. Other names that surfaced to play the role of Mulan also include Zhang Ziyi and Liu Yifei.

The Taiwanese actress Ting-ting Hu is also a contender for the role because of her resemblance to Mulan from the animated movie. Meanwhile, Fan Bingbing is also a fan-favorite because of her strong presence, making her fit to play a strong female character

Disney was previously in the midst of a controversy accusing the studio of whitewashing the movie by casting a white male lead. Disney has just recently announced that the "Mulan" live movie adaptation cast will feature Asian actors.
