NBC appears to get back into the comic book genre. The television broadcasting company is collaborating with Carol Mendelsohn (CSI) and Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) to adapt Marc Silvestri's "Witchblade."

After 14 years off the air, the American television series is coming back to TV. The property has been given a script commitment by NBC, which is a far ways off from an actual TV series being created, nevertheless, it is a big step in the right direction.

The story of "Witchblade" first debuted at Image Comics in 1995, from creators Michael Turner, Brian Haberlin, David Wohl and Marc Silverstri. The "Witchblade" ran for over six years on the Top Cow imprint and has seen life after publication by means of an anime series and a two-season TV series, which starred Yancy Butler in the lead role, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The "Witchblade" legacy was based on the graphic novel of the same name, the drama centers on homicide detective Sara Pezzini, who hunts an elusive serial killer and must navigate the police politics and grisly streets of San Francisco's Mission District. Until one day, the bracelet Sara has worn her entire life gives her the supernatural insight into a crime Sara's trying to solve. The bracelet is the "Witchblade," which is an amulet that has been worn by remarkable women throughout history.

Nevertheless, the "Witchblade" TV series will be executive produced by Brian Young and Caroline Dries. Carol Mendelsohn and Julie Weitz (Carol Mendelsohn Productions) will underwrite the upcoming TV show. Circle of Confusion's Rick Jacobs will also serve as an executive producer, Comic Book reported.

That being said, due to the lead character's distinct lack of wearing clothing when possessed by the Witchblade, the comic series attained notoriety in the late '90s among comic book enthusiasts.

No information yet available surrounding the anticipated premiere date of the "Witchblade" TV series.
