Tom Cruise, Ryan Reynolds in 'Green Lantern Corps' Shortlist; But Fans Think It’s Just Fantasy List
ByRumors have been circulating online that DC Entertainment has shortlisted six names that would be part of its upcoming "Green Lantern Corps" movie remake. Among the names included were Tom Cruise and Ryan Reynolds. However, with no concrete source, most fans believe this is just a wish list.
Cruise, Reynolds in the Shortlist
According to multiple sources who supposedly know some things about the upcoming remake of "Green Lantern Corps," the names in the list include Joel McHale, Bradley Cooper, Armie Hammer, Jake Gyllenhaal, Tom Cruise, and even Ryan Reynolds, who played the role of Hal Jordan in the giant disappointment of the movie adaptation of "Green Lantern" in 2011, The Wrap reported. Reynolds is still considered to play the role of Hal Jordan after the demand for him skyrocketed after pulling off "Deadpool" in February 2016.
According to reports, Cooper auditioned for the role of Green Lantern for the 2011 film, along with Jared Leto. Ultimately, the role went to Reynolds, while Cooper worked on the movie "War Dogs," and Leto was in "Suicide Squad." Cruise, on the other hand, has never played a superhero before. However, there are rumors that Cruise could be playing an older Jordan training a younger John Stewart, who the studios might bring in for the new "Green Lantern" live-action movie adaptation.
The Names Could Only be Part of a Wish List
Meanwhile, Gyllenhaal is a big fan of superheroes and Hammer trolled fans about possibly playing the role of Green Lantern." These names could be big and exciting, but there are a lot of fans claiming that this could only be just a wish list, Collider reported. A lot of fans believe that the names in the list won't do justice for Green Lantern's character. Meanwhile, others believe that casting Reynolds again for the role is a big joke.
Ultimately, casting is still in its early stage and there are no confirmed reports if the names in the list are really being considered by the studios. "Green Lantern Corps" is expected to premier on 2020 with Justin Rhodes and David S. Goyer writing the script.
