"Vikings" aired one of its most brutal episodes this week with "Revenge," Season 4's 18th episode. The Great Heathen Army finally set sail to Northumbria and avenged Ragnar's (Travis Fimmel) death by bringing down King Aelle's (Ivan Kaye) force. The upcoming "Vikings" episode, however, appears to be the calm before the storm befalling the Season 4 finale.

"Revenge" heavily featured Aelle's horrible death in the hands of the sons, who executed him using the blood eagle method. It turns out that the Vikings' revenge doesn't end here. They still have King Ecbert (Linus Roache) to deal with.

Episode 19 of "Vikings," titled "On the Eve," will showcase the Viking army causing "panic in the English countryside as King Ecbert and Aethelwulf (Moe Dunford) plan the defense of the realm," SpoilerTV reported (via History).

"On the Eve" is the penultimate episode of "Vikings" Season 4 and it's probably going to have less action than episode 18. Instead, it will focus on building up the huge Great Heathen Army vs. Saxons battle. However, it's also possible that episode 19 will showcase the big battle and the season finale will feature the aftermath of that violent encounter.

"Vikings" writer Michael Hirst told Entertainment Weekly that nothing will prepare fans for "how amazing the battle sequences are between the Great Army and the Saxons." He said that there's going to be "truly awesome battle sequences, but beneath that, there's a huge amount of emotional life." "Surprises" and "death" are coming to "important people" before "Vikings" Season 4 ends.

Aside from the highly anticipated combat scenes, "Vikings" fans are also looking forward to what's going to happen in Kattegut, where Harald (Peter Franzén) is attempting to take Lagertha's (Katheryn Winnick) throne. It remains to be seen whether or not Harald would succeed in his quest.

Episode 18 of "Vikings" also showcased Ragnar's body seemingly missing from his grave. This ignited fans' hopes that he isn't really dead and would come back at some point. Hirst, however, quickly shut down the speculations and said that it's "quite a lot of wishful thinking."
