Game developer Team Ninja will be dishing out a new role playing ninja game entitled "Nioh" this coming Feb. 9 for PlayStation 4. Creative director Tom Lee teased that it may be a gateway to the revival of "Ninja Gaiden" game.

It can be recalled that the latest game of the Ninja Gaiden franchise, "Yaiba" Ninja Gaiden Z," which was unveiled in September 2012 gathered so much bad reviews, Gazette Review reported. It is for this reason that Lee disclosed in an interview by US Gamer that the franchise needs to be in the shadows for the time being.

He promised that they will definitely bring back Ryu Hayabusa's world when the time is right, IGN has learned. According to sources, the upcoming RPG "Nioh" has already drawn numerous comparisons with the "Souls" series but Team Ninja pointed out that "Nioh" will have its own mark and independence.

Director Fumihiko Yasuda added that the biggest difference "Nioh" has from other role playing ninja games is that its main character is a samurai. He boasted the expertise of the Ninja Gaiden production team in bringing different fighting stances in the game as well as showcasing the different usage of diverse Japanese weaponry.

Unlike "Ninja Gaiden," which is a linear game with levels that funnel a player through encounters, "Nioh" on the other hand encouraged replays and re-visiting of locations. Reports added that game developers thought gamers nowadays want to rechallenge certain levels, so they are giving freedom to revisit past levels in this new role playing game.

With heavy emphasis on hardcore action, "Nioh" gives Team Ninja the opportunity to show-off their skills and expertise in maximizing their knowledge in game development. The team hopes that "Nioh" will become a genre of itself and show gamers what an action game really is.
