Most tech savvy people will be familiar with the common practice of larger companies acquiring smaller or startup companies in order to improve the former's quality of service. That is the case with Microsoft, who was reported to have acquired a startup company, called Simplygon. In other news, the US military was reported to have already incorporated the use of augmented reality in its training, according to sources.

It was recently reported that the Microsoft, an American multinational technology company based in Redmond, Washington, has acquired the startup company Simplygon for an undisclosed amount, Fortune noted. It was stated therein that the announcement was made in Tuesday by the company itself.

Moreover, it was further mentioned that Microsoft's aim at purchasing the Swedish startup company, Simplygon, was to incorporate the latter's technology in order to further improve the latter's lineup of products that are tailored for professionals who are in the 3D animated media industry, such as video games and/ or photos.

It was also noted by the source that the Vice President of Microsoft, Kudo Tsunoda, has also announced via a tweet that the same Simplygon employees will also be joining the technology giant in further developing its HoloLens augmented reality headsets.

For those unfamiliar with Microsoft's HoloLens, the device is geared towards augmented reality rather than virtual reality (as showcased by other devices like the Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive). That being said, the device allows 3D graphics to be set in overlay onto the real world. This is where Simplygon's technology will come in by helping coders create augmented reality apps that won't be resource-heavy, as explained by Simplygon's CEO Matt Connors.

In other news, it seems that the technology aimed at augmented reality is now being incorporated in the training mission of the US military, MSPowerUser reported. It was stated therein that the US military has found some use and application for Microsoft's HoloLens.

The second Battalion, sixt Marines, called "The Spartans," have held a weeklong exercise (Spartan Emerging Technology and Innovation Week) at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, in an effort to be associated with the use of augmented-reality headset.
