E Gordon Gee, former president of Ohio State University (OSU) has found a new job; the Associated Press reported he has been hired as the interim head of West Virginia University (WVU).

It will be Gee's second stint with WVU and it will only be temporary. He retired from OSU five months ago following rude comments made toward Notre Dame and Southeastern Conference (SEC) schools were made public.

Including two stints each at WVU and OSU, this will be the seventh time Gee will head up a major U.S. university.

The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission approved Gee's hiring Friday. Despite no timetable for his tenure, Gee will earn a salary equivalent to $450,000 per year.

"He is a seasoned and respected higher education leader who has served five major universities over 33 years, and I am confident he will continue the great work going on here and the momentum this University is enjoying," WVU board chairman James Dailey said in a statement.

Gee, who is expected on campus Tuesday, said he is thrilled to be headed back to Morgantown, W.V.

"I am delighted now to be able to come back - and give back - to the West Virginia University community while also continuing my commitments to Ohio State, as well as higher education in Ohio and nationally," Gee said in a statement issued by the school.

In a meeting one year ago, Gee addressed OSU's Athletic Council referred to Notre Dame as "those damn Catholics" then said they were never invited to join the Big Ten Conference because the school's religious leaders are "not good partners."

Gee has also made several other questionable comments that he has been forced to apologize publicly for, but the Notre Dame comments essentially lead to his retirement from OSU.

Despite the retirement, Gee maintained employed by the school as a professor of law. To serve as WVU's interim president, he will take an unpaid leave of absence from his duties at OSU.
