The sequel of the award winning strategy game, "XCOM " will be getting its own "XCOM 2" Long War mod. According to lead designer John Lumpkin, Pavonis Interactive alongside Firaxes are currently strengthening its ties and sorting out codes to make new maps and make the game better with new toys and abilities for online gamers to enjoy.

Lumpkin revealed they are taking the game in the same direction they took in "XCOM: Enemy Unknown," but this time going for an extended campaign that keeps the player on the knife's edge between victory and defeat for the duration, Euro Gamer reported. He added that they also heightened problems for players and dished out new tools to solve them as players are now heavily influenced by the game's guerilla war theme.

The source added Long War mod often summates difficulty as very few people have completed a full campaign on Impossible difficulty since it requires such consistent, smart play over such a grueling number of missions. Lumpkin emphasized that it is within Long War's DNA that it is of a hardcore mod.

While the game gathered a reputation of being so difficult and challenging, Lumpkin and his team broaden its playerbase by keeping the lower difficulty levels of Long War 2 more accessible to casual players who would still like to take part in an extended campaign experience.

On the other hand, the upcoming Long War 2 mod is said to reveal new types of weapon for players. It will reveal coilguns considered as a tier weapon that sit between Mag and Beam weapons.

It will be the second most powerful weapon in the game, Gamespot reported. Unlike "XCOM's" Long War mod, these weapons will be earned with considerable investment before a player can begin equipping this to his soldiers. For now, Lumpkin has not revealed yet the exact release date of the upgraded strategy game but he teased that it's already around the corner.
