A disciplinary panel at the General Teaching Council of Wales has banned Clare Horton, a 33-year-old instructor, from teaching for having an 'inappropriate and sexual relationship' with a 16-year-old student. Horton of Newport, south Wales, will have to wait for two years before reapplying to teach.
Horton, the design and technology teacher is accused of seducing the high school student at Fitzalan High School in Leckwith, Cardiff by sending messages, sexy selfies and racy pictures of herself (in a lacy crop top, little black dress with plunging necklines ) on Facebook. He was on study leave for his GCSE exams.
During the study leave, Horton met with the schoolboy for a revision time 'rendezvous' and then allegedly drove him back to her home for 'an afternoon sex session,' Mirror reports.
The student, being called Pupil A, told the police that he'd had sex with the teacher on the sofa at her home.
"He was in Facebook contact with Mrs Horton, then a teacher employed at the school. That led to them meeting up at the end of the school year - he came to her home and slept there," Martin Jones, presenting officer for the panel, said, Metro reports.
"Mrs Horton's behaviour clearly amounted to a significant breach in the professional boundary between her and pupil A. This constitutes misconduct."
Horton, mother of two, admitted sending raunchy Facebook photos but denied having sex with the student. She told the panel that the two were simply chatting before falling asleep
"He slept at my house and so did I. I slept alongside him. We did not have sexual intercourse," Horton said.
"To be told I was anything other than ugly, fat, useless and worthless was a safety blanket that I foolishly used," Horton said. "He was very kind and listened. I was just taking about what was going on with my ex-husband."
The student told police that he didn't want to slap charges against the professor because of his 'strict religious beliefs.' Prosecutors aren't moving forward with the criminal charges either
