2016 featured some really good WWE matches but when it came down to choosing the 2016 best WWE match, it has to be the John Cena vs AJ Styles match at Summerslam and Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn match at Battleground. Both matches featured top-notch performances from the superstars involved.
When the average WWE fan gets asked of the 2016 WWE best match, he would immediately think of John Cena vs AJ Styles. The two have had numerous matches over the year but none of them compared to their battle at WWE Summerslam. Nobody has ever conquered Cena in a feud as Cena would usually bounce back after losing the first match. However, AJ Styles won all their one-on-one battles in this feud including the one at WWE Summerslam, according to WWE.com, which certainly mean a passing of the torch.
Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens were supposed to engage in a long feud when they were in NXT but Zayn suffered an injury and Owens got shipped to the main roster. Now that both are in the main roster, they reignited their feud that culminated at WWE Battleground and that ended up being a candidate for 2016 WWE best match. At Battleground, Zayn defeated Owens with a Helluva Kick, according to Wrestlezone, and they once again proved that both have great chemistry in the ring by displaying innovative moves.
At WWE Survivor Series, many were expecting the men's traditional Survivor Series elimination match to be the 2016 WWE best match with the all-star lineup and they were right. The Raw team consisting of Braun Strowman, Seth Rollins, Chris Jericho, Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens took on the Smackdown Live team consisting of Shane McMahon, AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose, Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt. The Smackdown team won when Bray Wyatt pinned Roman Reigns with a Sister Abigail as he and Randy Orton were the survivors of their team.
