Nintendo 3DS 'Yo-Kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki' Top Selling Game In Japan; Movie Beats 'Rogue One' In Japan's Box Office [VIDEO]
ByWith the Christmas Holidays wrapping up, reports have shown that "Yo-Kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki" has garnered quite an impressive amount of success as it outsold numerous titles in Japan. Moreover, it seems that fans of the acclaimed "Yo-Kai Watch" franchise has also solidified its success in Japan's box office as reports also indicate that the movie version has also beaten the highly-anticipated sci-fi movie "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," according to sources.
It was recently reported that during the week of Dec. 12 to Dec. 18, "Yo-kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki" has been the top-seller video game in Japan, Siliconera has learned. After the recent release of the game in Japan, it was said that it wasn't surprising for the game to reach the number one spot.
It was stated further that the game was able to sell over 337, 979 copies for the Nintendo 3DS from when it was debuted in Japan. As such, it was said that "Yo-kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki" was able to outsell 3DS games like the acclaimed "Pokemon Sun and Moon," Super Mario Maker," "SaGa: Scarlet Grace" on the PS Vita, and even both PS4 titles such as "Yakuza 6: The Song of Life" and "Final Fantasy XV."
However, despite the game outselling other popular video game titles in Japan, it would seem that "Yo-kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki" has been the lowest performing game out of all the installments released for the franchise. The source suggested that the market is slowly being saturated with a lot of "Yo-kai Watch" and if the developers, Level-5, don't take a break from the series, the franchise might experience a downward slope in the near future.
But it seems that the movie version of "Yo-kai Watch 3" is doing great as it was reported that it has beaten the highly-acclaimed "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" in Japan's box office, Variety rewported.
Based on admissions, rather that box office earnings, it was reported that "Yo-kai Watch 3" came on top with 545,000 admissions and 5.2 million US dollars from 415 screens, with Toho distributing. The movie was titled as "Yo-Kai Watch the Movie: The Great Adventure of the Flying Whale and the Double World, Meow!"
