Phoenix Labs, a game studio made up of veterans from Riot Games, Capcom, Blizzard and BioWare, showed off the debut release of the online co-op action RPG "Dauntless" at The Game Awards 2016. The upcoming action role-playing game takes a player in a fantasy realm threatened by a dinosaur-like beasts called behemoths, and puts a gamer in the role of a behemoth hunter dubbed as the slayer.

The co-founder and President at Phoenix Labs, Jesse Houston, stated that the independent game studio is made up of the most talented game developers in the world. They make games for the reason that they love to play them, and they want to share these experiences with other gamers everywhere.

Phoenix Labs took their inspiration from games like "Monster Hunter," "World of Warcraft" and "Dark Souls" to create a new gaming experience. Houston hopes that their upcoming video game is the beginning of a long journey for their game studio, Engadget reported.

"Dauntless" takes its gamers to a sci-fi fantasy region called the Shattered Isles, where massive Behemoths are a constant threat in a world where people is forced to live on floating islands after an apocalyptic event destroyed the land apart, according to PC GamesN.

The game developers claim that if "Dauntless" players want to succeed, the players will need to forge and upgrade their weapons, and equipped themselves out with the right kit for the job, as every fight in the upcoming video game will be different. The gameplay of "Dauntless" appears to be a monster hunter.

The upcoming action role-playing game will be the first release from Phoenix Lab. The game is slated to be available on PC sometime in 2017. "Dauntless" will be free-to-play, and the game developers stated that they have plans to keep the video game updated for years to come, The Verge reported.
