As seen from most of Japanese anime series, robot characters have obviously captured their interest. Written by Shoji Gatoh, this light novel series is about Sousuke Sagara who is a member of the covert anti-terrorist private military organization known as Mithril with a task to protect the Japanese high school girl named Kaname Chidori.

2. Neon Genesis Evangelion

A Mech Anime series that has become a cultural icon and has influenced an artistic and technical revival of the anime industry and was regarded as a critique and deconstruction of the mecha genre.

3. Gurren Lagann

Gurren Lagann is about the two teenagers, Simon and Kamina who live in the subterranean village and is wishing to go to the surface. The story takes place in the earth's fictional future which is ruled by a Spiral King named Lordgenome who forced mankind to live in an isolated subterranean village.

4. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

This Mecha anime is perfect for those who are anti-heroes. The story is about the exiled Prince named Lelouch Vi Britanni who planned to revenge to his father when his father sent him to Japan as part of the bargaining tool. Feeling outcasted, he started his revenge after he was given with a mysterious power, called Geass which allowed him to bend people's will.

5. Knights of Sidonia

One of the new mecha series to hit the television in 2014. The story focuses on the adventures of a Garde Pilot named Nagate Tanikaze. Raised by his grandfather, he had lived in the underground layer of Sidonia since birth. He was able to master being a Guardian Pilot by training himself using an old simulator. He then emerged at the surface after his grandfather's death, just in time when Sidonia was under threat of Gauna.

6. Mobile Suit Gundam

The most influential mecha anime series of all time as it laid the foundations for all mecha anime. Debuted in 1979 and continues to live on even after forty years. Kids of the 80's and 90's, who could have forgotten Mobile Suit Gundam?

Others also consider Blue Gender, Broken Blade, Eureka Seven, Guilty Crown, Vandread, and Martian Successor Nadessico to be the best Mecha Anime series.
