Having a basic knowledge of the Force in the "Star Wars" anthology will help moviegoers understand the overall theme used in all "Star Wars" movies even in "Rogue One," which does not put a Jedi in the spotlight. "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" features Of Jyn Erso who is not a Jedi, but may be Force-sensitive, revealing why a "Star Wars" movie need not have a lightsaber-wielding hero in it to earn its place in the "Star Wars" saga.

The Force is everywhere as what Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda has taught the young Luke Skywalker during his training as a Jedi master. There is even a religion based on it by monk-like devotees in Jedha, the holy land of the Force, a place that will be featured in the "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."

Evidently, the Force is a driving energy that has been the center, glue and mechanism where the "Star Wars" cinematic universe operates on. It is then surprising that there are no Jedi, a group of Force-sensitive and Force-wielding peacekeepers in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." Dave Filoni spoke to Comicbook.com during the "Star Wars" Celebration Europe about the Force and its two opposing sides.

The dark side is wielded by the Sith Lords and their followers who mean to harm and overpower others while the light side is the realm of the Jedi masters, tasked to protect the universe. The Force acts as a spiritual being who keeps the balance of the two sides.

Moreover, people with midi-chlorians in their blood are more attuned to the Force, but even those with less can be used by the Force just as it did with Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), the main protagonist in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." Although, ther are hints in the movie that Jyn may have inherited a fair amount of midi-chlorians from her mother who is rumored to be a Jedi in hiding according to Fansided.

Filoni refused to divulge about this matter, saying that the Force is only effective when it is wrapped in mystery. Jedi or not, Jyn Erso has played a vital role in the "Star Wars" anthology by stealing the Death Star plans, which paved the way for its destruction. "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will hit theaters on December 16, 2016.
