Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) has lifted its lockdown that lasted about three hours after a person was reportedly spotted carrying weapons into a campus building, NBC Connecticut reported.

One person has been taken into police custody after law enforcement contained the suspect in James Hall. A police source told NBC Connecticut that the lockdown had been lifted and officers are speaking to several people about the incident.

In a press conference held on the school's campus, CCSU police chief Chris Cervoni said "three people of interest [are] in custody" and are all "student age" and cooperating. He said one is definitely a CCSU student and the other two he could not confirm.

The main suspect, caught on surveillance tape entering James Hall with apparent weaponry, was found in a dorm room with the two other people, who have not been placed under arrest, Cervoni said.

There was no struggle, but an unnamed source told the Hartford Courant state police officers were talking to a suspect in James Hall after he had been cornered into a dorm room. Cervoni said in the conference that the surveillance footage shows the suspect entering James Hall equipped with a sword and what appears to be a handgun.

Around 2:30 p.m., a man in an orange shirt and camouflage pants was seen being lead away in handcuffs by police, the Courant reported, also confirming the lockdown had been lifted.

Jordan Governale, a junior from Farmington, told the Associated Press he walked by a person wearing a mask and camouflage pants carrying a sword in a sheath, kneepads, what appeared to be a body armor vest and a backpack, but assumed it was a Halloween costume. Only a minute later, he saw law enforcement officers apparently responding to the situation.

"At first I thought it was a Halloween costume. But after I saw the cops I thought it was some sort of threat," he said. "It's pretty scary. It's pretty strange, unexpected."

Cervoni said investigators are not ruling out the possibility that the suspect's getup was his Halloween costume, but did not believe the actions were by any means a prank.

New Britain Police chief James Wardwell said at the conference that police received numerous 911 calls from on or near the campus and no threats were made prior to the incident. He said officers arrived in minutes and those that made the emergency calls directed the officers to the suspect's approximate location.

Wardwell confirmed no shots were fired and no one had yet reported any gunfire during the ordeal.

Cervoni said it was an isolated incident and the lockdown was lifted because students and faculty were safe. At this time, he could not confirm what weapons had been found on the scene and said the police are still looking. Cervoni also could not reveal if any charges had been or will be filed.

The incident began around noon, which on a Monday is when the campus is at its fullest, according to Rachael Bentley, the managing editor of the campus newspaper, the Recorder. She said the campus cleared quickly after the alert was issued.

Jack Miller, CCSU president was thankful to the emergency responders who came from all over to assists. At the top of the press conference he said, "In this situation, our prayers were answered."
