The "Avatar 2" release date on December 2018 has been confirmed by Fox, providing updates on tentative release schedules for "Avatar" 3, 4 and 5. Moreover, director and writer James Cameron has already completed the original scripts for all four "Avatar" sequels, which will again feature cutting-edge technology that may bring another blockbuster and break all box-office records.

The "Avatar 2" has been eagerly anticipated despite the seven long years of waiting before news of an "Avatar" sequel and an "Avatar 2" release date have been confirmed. This may be because 2009's "Avatar" still remains the highest grossing film of all time with $2.782 million dollars in profits.

This feat sets expectations high for "Avatar 2" and the three other sequels, "Avatar" 3, 4 and 5. Sigourney Weaver who will be reprising her role as Dr. Grace Augustine recently spoke to Variety, commending the scripts for the "Avata 2" and its sequels.

Weaver said that the script covers a much larger scope than the first "Avatar," where Cameron did some "heavy-lifting" in establishing the characters, the different worlds and the culture of the Na'Vi people. Now Cameron may be able to play, which portends well to moviegoers who like to be treated with the visual delights and compelling storytelling typical of Cameron's movies.

The "Avatar 2" plot has not been generously revealed, but Cameron provided a focal point for the main storyline, which is focused on the family. "Avatar 2" will tell the story and the struggles of the children of Jake and Neytiri in their confrontations with the humans, according to Cinema Blend.

Moreover, Cameron will again infuse the latest technology in modern filmmaking, which the "Titanic" director has often been pushing for. The current rumors say that "Avatar 2" may be filmed using 4K resolution, 3D and higher frame rates, as much as 120 per second.

The first "Avatar" boasted of motion capture, which was Cameron's selling point to moviegoers and film producers alike. Evidently, Cameron's gamble with technology has paid-off and Fox is hoping that the same feat can be accomplished with "Avatar 2" and for sequels 3, 4 and 5.

Sam Worthington (Jake Scully), Zoe Saldana (Neytiri), and Stephen Lang (Col. Miles Quaritch) have been confirmed to reprise their roles. The "Avatar 2" release date is set on December 21, 2018 with the sequels scheduled for releasse in year 2020, 2022 and 2023.
