DC Comics ‘Shazam’ Movie: Actors Who Could Play The Superhero And Face Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam
ByThe role of Shazam is currently up for grabs as DC Comics Extended Universes announces a 2019 release date for the film. Although not much about the film has been revealed, it has been confirmed that Dwayne Johnson has been cast to play the lead villain.
Dwayne Johnson has been enlisted by play Black Adam, the villain to Shazam. He is the only cast member to be confirmed so far. Although Johnson could have chosen the role of Shazam instead, he went for Black Adam because, as an actor, he found the character more interesting.
"What made me choose Black Adam? I just felt Black Adam was inherently more interesting to me because I felt there were more layers to Black Adam, starting out as a slave and then ultimately becoming the anti-hero who we enjoy today," Johnson told Digital Spy.
Recently, there are rumors that Channing Tatum has dropped the "Gambit" movie and has opted to play Shazam instead. According to Movie Pilot, Rick Famuyiwa, during the time he signed on as the director of "The Flash" followed a lot of people on Twitter who were attached to DCEU films, including Zack Snyder, Ben Affleck and Ray Fisher. The only exception was Channing Tatum. It is noted that Tatum and Famuyiwa have never been in a project together before so Famuyiwa following Tatum could be pure coincidence or that he's actually part of DCEU as Shazam.
Since Tatum hasn't been confirmed yet, here's a look at other actors who could play the role of Shazam on the big screen.
Kellan Lutz
Lutz is a big guy standing at 6'1". He's also well-built and has done a lot of action films such as "The Expendables 3," "The Legend of Hercules" and "Immortals," to name a few. He definitely has the physique to play Shazam. Given that he played Emmett in the "Twilight" saga, Lutz also has the chops to play a childish young lad.
Armie Hammer
Hammer is another big guy who stands at 6'5". He can definitely stand up against The Rock in terms of size. Hammer was previously considered to play Batman in a defunct "Justice League" movie in 2008.
Liam Hemsworth
Hemsworth is another bulky guy who can be a worthy opponent to Johnson's Black Adam. He's the younger brother of Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor over at Marvel. Perhaps superhero genes run in the family and the younger Hemsworth brother has what it takes to play Shazam.
