If it's not a big deal, it's not Marvel. "Thor: Ragnarok" is said to be a game changer for Thor as the producer stated that the superhero will be facing big challenges in the sequel.
There will likely be many unfortunate events that could impact Asgard. For instance, Thor is rumored to possess Odin's power as soon as the king dies but because he could not control it, the power becomes a boomerang for him.

Meanwhile, Thor's beloved brother, Loki, has everything well-planned to ruin Asgard. He teams up with devious Hela and sets Surtur demon free. They become the powerful force that can ruin Asgard, take down Thor and his teammates. According to Cinemablend, Hela will play important role in banishing Mjolnir.
The attack will likely cause massive destruction to Asgard that Thor needs another helping hand. This is where Dr. Strange might come in handy. He could be the key to demolish Surtur and Ymir monsters - putting them to another world by using his magical ability.
Many reports have speculated that Thor won't be able to escape Hela's powerful magic and he will be thrown out of Asgard but there is no further explanation on how he could survive. The fans can expect a surprise from Marvel Cinematic as the studio could plot a totally different story from the comic book. Perhaps, there will be a life and death moment for Thor?

In Dr. Strange's post credit scene, Thor asks Steven to help him find his father. Since then, many have questioned Odin's whereabout.
In the comic, Odin decides to stay in the afterlife dimension to prevent Surtur from escaping. It can be argued that Thor and Loki's quest to find the Asgardian ruler might end up as a dissapointment knowing that they can never bring back their father.
