Square Enix has shared the latest on "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue" with a new set of screenshots and character renders from "A Fragmentary Passage."

Before the said release date for the next "Kingdom Hearts" franchise, the game developer revealed information on the game's upcoming characters and surroundings, according to GameReactor. The screenshots focus on the protagonist of 0.2 Birth by Sleep-A Fragmentary Passage Aqua, alongside Riku and King Mickey's appearance.

"Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8" is expected to delve on a new story that explores the history of Aqua, while more details link the game to the story of "Kingdom Hearts 3." The 2.8 game series will tightly connect the plot from "KH3" and the upcoming "KH 2.8," so players should play the latter in order to gain more details on the upcoming 3rd installment.

The new "Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep - A Fragmentary Passage" will retell a new playable episode that links to the story of "Kingdom Hearts III," taking place after the storyline of "Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep" played from the perspective of Aqua.

The newly remastered title also features a high-definition remaster of "Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance" and the "Kingdom Hearts χ [chi]: Back Cover" movie, a new HD movie that tells the mysterious story of the Foretellers, connecting the earliest parts of the series' history as showcased in the upcoming mobile title "Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ[chi]."

"Kingdom Hearts 2.8 HD" is the remastered version for PS4 users. The game, however, will not feature any improvements in terms of visual effects or gameplay, aside from the improved development in terms of story and content.

Meanwhile, according to Guide, the trailer for "Kingdom Hearts 3" showed Sora picking up the Master's Defender off the shore of Destiny Islands. Rumors suggest that Aqua sent the Keyblade from the Realm of Darkness to Destiny Islands.

Also, another speculation noted for the upcoming "KH3" is that at the end of "0.2 Birth By Sleep," Aqua will send the Master's Defender from the dark margin where it should find the way to Sora.

"Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue" will launch for PlayStation 4 on Jan. 12 in Japan and Jan. 24 in North America and Europe.
