In the final part of "The Death of X" comics mini-series, the fate of one of the original members of the X-Men, Cyclops, was finally revealed and it was not what fans originally thought of. Instead, what they got was what they fear all along.
At first, it looked like Cyclops got killed by Black Bolt when Medusa ordered him to use his supersonic scream on him. However, Emma Frost revealed to Havok, Cyclops' brother, during the latter's funeral that he is not the one in the coffin. She said Cyclops has been dead since the first issue after getting exposed to the Terrigen Mists on Muir Island.
Emma just used her psychic projections to make Cyclops look alive, including all the things he did such as organizing a team to destroy the Terrigen cloud, uniting the troops against the Inhumans and falling against the Black Bolt.
Emma says she made the psychic projections so that Cyclops be heroically remembered, not someone who died of a disease. She wants him to be remembered as someone who died fighting for the people he cared about. For fans, this was a very shocking revelation since Emma herself has not been seen since Secret Wars.
Before Cyclops' confrontation with Medusa and Black Bolt, he led a team of Magneto, Magick, Sunfire, Emma Frost and the Cuckoos that succeeded in transmuting one of the Terrigen clouds into harmless vapour. He even enlisted the help of Alchemy who was recruited last issue. However, Alchemy makes a mistake when he touches the cloud and gets sick of M-Pox, dying in the process.
It still has not been revealed where Emma Frost was for the past year. Perhaps, it will be revealed in Inhumans vs. X-Men which will be without Cyclops. The first issue will hit comic book stores on Nov. 30.
