'The Last of Us' Movie Getting Axed?; Sam Raimi Says Production is Just Sitting There [VIDEO]
By"The Last of Us" movie producer Sam Raimi (Spiderman 1, 2, &3) recently spoke to the press regarding the movie's production status. The famed director said they do not want to move forward right now and the project is just sitting there.
Raimi just resounded the statements that writer Neil Druckmann released earlier this year. Druckmann said that the game adaptation has entered development hell and has been that way for a year and a half, PlayStation Lifestyle reported.
He said that Sony, which is the mother studio for the film, has plans that are different from Druckmann, hence the standstill. Raimi said he cannot do anything to help with the situation since his production house was just hired by Sony.
The future of the movie version of the hit post-apocalyptic video game is uncertain, which gave rise to speculations that it will get axed. Sam Raimi just confirmed what fans have feared when he gave details about the behind the scenes problems that put the production on hold, Den of Geek reported.
Raimi, however, said that he is still attached to the project and that he's still very much interested in producing it. It's just that everything regarding the movie adaptation is not looking good at the moment. The production date has been put on hold. No actors have yet been hired. The release date is obviously still out of the question.
If the movie will be canned, then, it will no longer surprise anyone. "Creative differences" is far too common but fans wish it shouldn't have plagued "The Last of Us." Druckmann was able to create a video game that shook the entire gaming industry that's why it's understandable why he wants his vision to be similar with its movie adaptation.
But Sony's standpoint could be grounded in the fact that there are plenty of movies similar to the look that "The Last of Us" has, such as "Logan" and the latest "Resident Evil" film. The studio must've not wanted their project to be compared to any of these films that's why they're holding back all the go flags to get the production starting again.
