Chuck Scarborough, a news anchor for WNBC-TV in New York, will be inducted into the University Of Southern Mississippi (USM)'s School of Mass Communication and Journalism Hall of Fame, Thursday for his worldwide reporting from Europe, Russia, the Middle East, the Philippines, Mexico and South America.

"We're absolutely thrilled that Chuck is returning to campus," Chris Campbell, director of the school said in an official statement. "He's among the university's most accomplished graduates."

The Emmy-winning alumnus who is in his 39th year as news anchor for WNBC-TV in New York began his television career at WLOX-TV in Biloxi after serving in the Air Force for four years. In 1968-69 while earning his bachelor's degree in radio and TV at USM, Scarborough worked for WDAM-TV in Hattiesburg as a reporter and anchor.

From 1969 to 1972, he worked at WAGA-TV in Atlanta, as managing editor of the station's newscasts, supervisor and coordinator of all news production besides being a reporter and anchor. From 1972 until he joined WNBC in 1974, Scarborough worked as an anchor and reporter at WNAC-TV in Boston.

So far, the Pittsburgh native has been honored with 33 Emmy awards including a special Emmy for his reporting on the September 11th terror attacks in New York, as well as for his investigative reports on airport security, criminal justice and building safety.

"He's had an extraordinary career and has defied all the odds by holding down one job for 40 years in an industry where four or five years is considered a lifetime," said Campbell. "That's a tribute to his talent, his work ethic and his impeccable credentials as a journalist."
