The last trailer of Kong: Skull Island showed at Comic Con three months ago showed glimpses of King Kong in the end. The new full-length trailer shown by Jimmy Kimmel focused more on King Kong, the monsters that also inhabit the island and the scientists who are trying to survive the whole ordeal.
The movie retells the origin of King Kong as it is set in the 70s and follows a group of scientists and soldiers who were sent on a mission to explore a newly discovered island. They end up getting more than what they bargained for when they encounter several monsters in the island.
The film has an all-star cast in Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, John Goodman and John C. Reilly. It is directed by Jordan Vogt-Robers who also directed TV series Single Dads and short movie Successful Alcoholics. The trailer has a 70s feeling in it because Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Bad Moon Rising" was playing in the beginning.
It is written by John Gatins, Max Borenstein, Derek Connolly and Dan Gilroy who all had a hand in past machine/monster movies as Gatins co-wrote Real Steel, Connolly co-wrote Jurassic World, Borenstein co-wrote 2014 Godzilla and Gilroy co-wrote Nightcrawler. It is one of those rare occurrences that a movie has too many writers since there's usually just one or two but a movie as big as this deserves experienced writers such as those four guys.
In the trailer, it is clear King Kong is not the biggest threat to the group as John C. Reilly's character warns them of a creature called "The Skull Crawler". From the new footage, these Skull Crawlers mean business and they look to kill unwelcome guests in the island.
Kong: Skull Island opens worldwide on March 10, 2017 and the plan is Godzilla 2 and Godzilla vs. Kong will follow in the coming years.
