‘The Defenders’ News: Jessica Jones Krytsen Ritter, Rachel Taylor On Set; Netflix Marvel Universe Expanding [VIDEO]
ByFilming for the "The Defenders" is underway and "Jessica Jones" actors Krysten Ritter and Rachel Taylor have been spotted together while filming in New York. "The Defenders" is expanding the Netflix marvel universe with a super-team, which has been reinvented for viewers of the streaming site.
"The Defenders" is gathering Marvel's superheroes into a super-team consisting of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and soon-to-be introduced Iron Fist. The quartet's sole purpose is to save New York City from super villains.
These superheroes excepting Iron Fist have their own standalone shows, making up the Netflix Marvel universe. It has been Marvel's practice to use Netflix and television shows as a platform to introduce and establish characters that can be used to further expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is also the easiest way for Marvel comic book characters, superheroes and villains alike, to jump from paper to the big screen.
"The Defenders" will be closing the first crucial stage of the Netflix Marvel universe to prepare for the next big phase. Rumors have it that Blade, Ghost Rider and Moon Knight will be making their debut in the newest Marvel series as reported by Comic Book.
"The Defenders" will be relying on old established characters from Marvel's existing Netflix series. The cast of "Jessica Jones" are on board with Jones herself, Krysten Ritter, who brings her best friend Trish Walker played by Rachel Taylor. Both Ritter and Taylor are confirmed to appear on the show and were even spotted on location as reported by Daily Mail.
"Luke Cage" star Mike Colter will also be joined by co-stars Simone Missick (Knight), and Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple). All actors have starred in all three Marvel series.
"Daredevil" star Charlie Cox brings with him Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson) and Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page). "Punisher" actor Jon Bernthal and "Iron Fist" star Finn Jones are also confirmed to be part of the new series.
"The Defenders" is slated for release next year, following the debut of "Iron Fist" on March 17, 2017. "The Punisher" has no official release date as of yet.
