‘Don’t Breathe 2’ News: Sequel Hitmaker Sam Raimi Promises Surprising Plot Twists; Menacing Blind Man Returns? [VIDEO]
By"Don't Breathe 2" the sequel to the surprise blockbuster horror-thriller "Don't Breathe" may be in the works once producer Sam Raimi and director Fede Alvarez finalize the story line of the movie. Both Raimi and Alvarez promise a whole new twist in the sequel that does not conform to the traditional Hollywood sequels moviegoers are accustomed to. Fans of the first movie may once again see the frightening blind man (Stephen Lang) on the big screen and if he will be out to seek revenge.
"Don't Breathe" may be the biggest surprise of 2016 as it raked in a total of $152.1 million in ticket sales. The movie was also lauded by moviegoers and critics alike. Once again, Sam Raimi has proven his good judgment when it comes to filmmaking.
Raimi has also been known to have the Midas touch when it comes to doing sequels. His Evil Dead II and Spider-man 2 are both sequels that did well at the box-office and can also be considered as standalone films. However, Alvarez is not the kind of director who conforms to Hollywood traditions.
In a discussion with Cinema Blend, Raimi, Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues discussed the possible plots for "Don't Breathe 2." The filmmakers also revealed their shared sentiments when approached by Sony Pictures Entertainment regarding a sequel to the hit "Don't Breathe."
Alvarez, in particular, expressed dismay on doing a sequel even saying that "it is evil" because Hollywood is doing it all the time according to International Business Times. He also indicated that he may not be directing "Don't Breathe 2" unless the idea for the sequel is interesting enough to entice him.
Both Raimi and Alvarez have "the greatest idea for a sequel" that they are not even sure Sony will approve. The filmmakers are mum about the story line, to keep the element of surprise on their side. For now, fans can only anticipate if the menacing blind man will return to the big screen and seek his revenge on Rocky (Jane Levy).
