Even before "Suicide Squad" hit the theaters back in August, producers were already in the talks of creating a movie for the lovesick villainess that captivated the whole world. A Harley Quinn spinoff is finally going to happen as the studio has found the writer to pen the DC film.

Screenwriter Christina Hodson has been hired to pen the Harley Quinn/Birds of Prey movie, The Wrap reported. But unlike earlier speculations that it will be a standalone movie, well, it's not. Margot Robbie, who plays the sexy psychotic Harley Quinn, will star along with other DC Comics female superheroes or super villains.

Robbie, who has signed up for multiple contracts with DC will reprise her role and will perhaps star with the characters of Batgirl and the Birds of Prey, Cinema Blend reported. No other names of actors have been mentioned yet and no plots have been confirmed but words have it that the idea of the spinoff came from Robbie herself.

After reading about her character, she began to like other DC female superheroes and even went with Hodson to pitch to the executives that a spinoff would be a not so bad idea in this time and age.

Harley Quinn has been Joker's sidekick and love interest both in "Batman: The Animated Series" and in the comics. But the new editions have her stepping out of Joker's shadow and starting her own league as an anti-heroine in her own story.

If this project pushes through, Harley Quinn will be the second female-led movie in the DC entertainment after Wonder Woman, who is played by Gal Gadot. Robbie is reportedly not only going to star in her own superhero/villain movie, she will also produce it.

The Harley Quinn spinoff is expected to be released between October 2018 and November 2019.
