Naval Academy Graduate Arrested on 3 Battery Charges for Beating Up Disney World 'Cast Members'
ByA Naval Academy graduate and aviator-in-training was arrested in Orange County, Fla. Saturday for allegedly beating up three Disney World "cast members," the Navy Times reported.
Orange County police arrested Navy ensign Austin DeVan Hill, 24, on charges of battery, aggravated battery and felony battery at Disney World's Epcot Center. According to the police report, a "very intoxicated" Hill attacked three people at the park dressed in costume or in performance roles.
Hill's athletic department bio page says he is a former Navy football player and he is also listed among the academy's 2012 graduates. He is currently assigned to Training Wing 5 in Milton, Fla.
According to the arrest report, Hill made his way into an exhibit off-limits to park visitors at the Epcot Center, where he punched a man in the face causing "a large gash across his forehead."
Then, when Hill, listed at six feet tall and 157 pounds on his athletic page bio, attempted to take a "work cart," a second employee confronted the Navy grad and also got punched in the face. Lastly, Hill struck a woman identified in the Orlando Sentinel as a park employee with a three-foot "plastic PVC pipe."
The two men were taken to Celebration Hospital in Kissimmee and the woman was treated on the scene.
Hill was also taken to Celebration Hospital after resisting arrest, breaking free at one point and falling to the ground suffering facial injuries. He was released from Orange County Jail Sunday morning bond, confirmed a corrections facility spokeswoman Monday.
According to personnel records, Hill has received both the Meritorious Unit Commendation and the National Defense Services medals.
Hill graduated Mahopac High School in 2008 and, as a senior, lettered once there and twice at another school. He served as the Navy football team's long snapper.
