‘Fantastic Beasts 2’: Dumbledore Confirmed To Appear For The Sequel; Why Johnny Depp Was Chosen To Play Grindelwald [Video]
ByDirector David Yates confirmed Albus Dumbledore will appear as his younger self in the upcoming "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" sequel.
"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is not even in theaters yet, but it seems the people behind Warner Bros. and the production of J.K. Rowling's screenplay is confident that the first film would be a hit. It was even announced that there will be five films for the series in total, according to Screen Rant.
The timeline of "Fantastic Beasts" is set several decades prior to Harry Potter. Albus Dumbledore was born in 1881, making him about 116 years old when he died in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is set in 1926, New York City, making Dumbledore 45 years old in the storyline.
According to Yates, Dumbledore will definitely be making an appearance in the movie sequel and that Rowling is planning to add four sequels more to the first "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." Casting for the role is said to be underway.
Yates also gave a bit of a spoiler for the sequel saying Newt Scamander, played by Eddie Redmayne, will also be in the sequel and that he (Scamander) and Dumbledore will have a handful of scenes together. He also teased they are in discussion on who should play Dumbledore, and that they are accepting suggestions.
According to IGN, discussions were made how the series will tackle the history of Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald, but the extent of their involvement in the upcoming films was not explained. The series was originally planned to be a trilogy but Rowling revised the earlier announcement and revealed the series is extended to five films.
Aside from the appearance of Dumbledore, Johnny Depp was confirmed to have a role in the second film as Gellert Grindelwald. Yates revealed in an interview with a fansite 'The Leaky Cauldron,' to stop rumors on the casting of Depp, he said that they are going for someone who is the best, most inspired, interesting and a right fit for the character.
"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is expected in theaters November 18, 2016.
