Boston College Student Anonymously Admits to Sexual Assault on Facebook, Later Says its a Hoax
ByOn a popular "confessions" Facebook page at Boston College (BC) typically reserved for over-eating and dating advice, one student admitted to three sexual assaults, the Huffington Post reported.
"Boston College Confessions" is a Facebook page where students can submit what they would like to confess to anonymously. One student detailed taking advantage of two intoxicated women and, without providing details, a third.
The posts went up Tuesday and have since been removed, but not before school administration and police were notified. The people who run the page, not affiliated with or commissioned by BC, said they turned over all information they had on the anonymous person to the authorities.
The anonymous poster said he was awkward around women and has never had a girlfriend. He was met mostly with outrage, many calling him a "rapist," while some suggested he was mentally sick and needed help.
Although the post was taken down, the Huffington Post published what he wrote. The story is not sexually explicit, but be forewarned both posts depict a sexual assault situation.
"I finally was able to get what I wanted. I put her clothes back on her (which was more difficult than you'd think) and tucked her into my roommate's bed. When she woke up the next morning, she asked me who I was and why she was in my room. She had no recollection of the prior night. I was thankful, because this meant that I didn't have to apologize. I told her that she came in with my roommate and passed out in his bed around 1 a.m. She thanked me for being a gentleman, which I chuckled at under my breath."
The second assault he explained occurred when he walked his friend's girlfriend home, she too was intoxicated.
"Being that I was slightly drunk at this point, my judgment was compromised, and I did something that I am still ashamed of. I took advantage of her, and what troubles me is that I enjoyed every minute of it. It wasn't until the moment that I finished, that I suddenly was struck with intense feelings of shame and remorse. But yet again, I had gotten away with it."
Massachusetts state law clearly defines rape to include sexual intercourse in which the victim is unable to consent due to the influence of alcohol.
In a statement Wednesday, BC dean of students Paul Chebator said a student admitted to writing the posts, but said they were not true.
"The student appeared quite remorseful; nevertheless, this matter will continue to be investigated and the student will be referred to the Student Conduct System for resolution of this matter," Chebator said. "There is a continuing investigation into this matter with the BC Police and the Dean's Office."
A group of students has organized an event Thursday for sexual violence awareness and the culture on college campuses.
