A very rare Pikachu Card currently on sale at an auction is believed to fetch the high price of $50,000 once sold.

The card, called "Pikachu Illustrator," is currently put up for auction at Heritage Auctions, IGN reported. The card is considered to be the rarest of all Pokémon trading cards, and is believed to fetch the said high price once the sale ends on November 19.

The Pikachu Illustrator card, technically named "Pokémon Illustrator," is considered very rare due to the fact that it was not sold nor was mass-produced and made available to the general public. It was created for the purpose of being awarded as a prize in an illustration contest by Japan's CoroCoro Magazine.

A total of 39 Pikachu Illustrator cards were created, all of it awarded to different people: three first place winners and 20-second place winners in CoroCoro's January 1998 issue, and the remaining cards in two different contests the following year. The number of surviving original cards are unknown as of now.

The card is designed by Atsuko Nishida, and features the fan-favorite Pikachu holding an artist's brush on one hand and what appears to be a wing-like thing on the other hand. This card is the only one that has the term "Illustrator" on it, and is the only one bearing a pen symbol, located at the bottom right portion of the card.

Expensive Collection

This isn't the only expensive Pokémon Card available for hobbyists and hardcore collectors today. According to Kotaku, there's also a solid gold Pikachu card that's being sold for $2,000. The gold Pikachu card, which is the product of a collaboration between jeweler Ginza Tanaka and the Pokémon Company, is made of 24k gold and weighs 11 grams.

This card is made in commemoration of 20 years of the Pokémon trading card game.
