The recently concluded Apple event did not provide any information regarding the new iPad Mini, leaving gadget freaks disappointed. However, it looks like iPad fans will have something to cheer about in the near future.

The new iPad was a no-show at the Apple event last September, which fueled speculations among tech buffs that the Mini 5 will not see the light of day this year. Several sources speculated that iPad Mini 5 release date could be in March 2017.

Meanwhile, there are rumors that Apple could unveil the new iPad this month itself. The speculation stems from the fact that the tech giant has sent invitations to a press event scheduled to take place on Thursday, Oct. 27 at its Cupertino-based headquarters.

Previous reports have hinted a moderate redesign coupled with trivial changes for the new iPad. Rumors indicate that the iPad Air 3 and iPad Mini 5 will sport thinner designs as compared to their predecessors, at just 5mm. It's worth noting that the rumored device's predecessors are already 6.1mm, according to MacWorld.

If this comes to fruition and the new iPad turns out to be thinner, there is a possibility that it will come with the 7000-series aluminium chassis, similar to the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, in order to make it sturdier. The new iPad is expected to boast a Smart Connector, identical to the iPad Pro model, for its own Smart Keyboard.

Apple is not likely to deploy the 3D Touch pressure-sensitive screen technology in its new iPad series, which was used in Apple's iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Pundits believe that the iPad Mini 5's thinner construction would be made possible by using a smaller yet robust battery, according to CultOfMac.

As far as camera is concerned, the Mini 5 is not expected to sport the same 8MP primary and 1.2MP front cameras. Despite rumors hinting a minimal improvement, fans are hopeful that the device's selfie camera will get a larger boost. Moreover, Apple is likely to dump the 16GB model in favor of larger 32GB, 64GB and 128GB models for the iPad Mini 5.
